Summer Qi Chats | Week 4
Can you wibble wobble?
This week we discuss how balance training is not about static movement but leaning how to adapt!
Upper Body + Lower Body
Your brain wants you to stand upright and to do so, you need some moves to keep you there. Swaying, rocking, adapting is part of balance. We’re not a rigid pole that is fused together, we have this multiple moving components that need control to adapt to what’s happening above and below.
Differentiating the movement of the upper body and the lower body is part of balance training. We need to create stability below as we’re moving above but we also need to stabilize our upper torso as we move around on uneven terrain. To do this effortless, we need to train for this ability.
Wibble Wobble
There is a time and a place to train on an uneven surface just as there’s the time to train on a stable surface as we move the upper body. If you have an enjoyable workout routine that needs some novelty, then you can create stability above or below as you move the other area of the body.
